I Did It!
‘1 spent about $100 on paint for my dining room floor.
Even a bad rug is so much more expensive than that!”
RUGS DON’T STAND A CHANCE
in Kristin and Ray
Kauffman’s home, where four kids and five dogs give
the floors a workout. That’s fine with Kristin, who
prefers the look and durability of painted floors so
much thatshe’sapplied acrylic latexfloor paint
throughout their Virginia, US, home. The dining
room began with a centred “rug.” Kristin masked off
one rectangleand a fewstripes, keepingthe original
oak as the faux rug’s border and accents. Then she
painted the floor white, taped off stripes, added six
colours,and finished with a sealer. She spent a week
on the project, painting after her kids—Maggie,7;
Stewart, 5; Trip,3; and Betsy,1— went to bed. Kristin’s
next project? Stripes on herdaughters’ bedroom
walls— in 18colours.fi!)
